AGA Attends Special White House Tour
AGA members Joel V. Brill, MD, AGAF, and Carla Ginsburg, MD, AGAF, and staff (pictured below left) attended a special White House tour along with other colorectal cancer advocates (pictured below) to commemorate National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. President Obama issued a proclamation designating March as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month on Feb. 28. AGA is grateful for this proclamation, which highlights the importance of screening to help combat this preventable disease.
The administration highlighted its work to increase access to screening for all Americans since the Affordable Care Act requires health plans to cover colorectal cancer screenings with no cost sharing for patients. Through the CDC, the administration is also supporting the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable initiative to increase the screening rate to 80 percent of Americans by 2018.
AGA applauds the administration’s recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. We will continue to work with them to ensure that all patients continue to have access to lifesaving colorectal cancer screenings.
